People stay in Gwangalli for one reason: the Gwangan Bridge lit up, seen from the room. The four hotels below sit 40 to 100m from Gwangalli Beach — one or two minutes on foot.
Which means the distance figure cannot decide this booking. They are all equally close. And there is a bigger problem hiding in the listings: every one of these hotels also sells rooms with nothing to look at. Staying 40m from the beach and facing a car park is a real outcome here.
40 to 100m to the sand — the baseline
Hotel Homers 40m, Hound Hotel Gwangan 60m, Hotel Aqua Palace 70m, Kent Hotel Gwangalli 100m.
Nobody walking feels the difference between 40m and 100m. In Haeundae these numbers reshape the day; in Gwangalli all four front the same beach road, and the walk out and back in swimwear works identically from each. The Gwangan Bridge is 1.25–1.39km from all of them — something you look at, not walk to.
So in Gwangalli you read the room name instead of the distance.
Every hotel here has a “no view” type

There is no exception. And the wording is inconsistent between properties — “No View”, “no view”, “City View”, “partial sea view”, and types that simply say nothing at all. In a results list these words sit at the end of a long room name, easy to skip past when the photos all show the sea.
Two labels are worth knowing before you book. “Run of House” means the room is assigned on arrival — the type is not guaranteed, whatever the photo showed. And Kent’s “Cinema” refers to a screen inside the room, not a window; the Cinema Twin then adds “No View” after it. The longer the room name, the less of it people read, and in Gwangalli the end of the name is the whole reason for the trip.
Only one of the four differs on transport
Gwangan Station is 670m from Hotel Homers, Aqua Palace and Kent alike. Hound Hotel Gwangan is the exception — Gwangan Station is 1.02km away, its furthest, but Geumnyeonsan Station is 350m, which halves the real walk. It sits at the southern end of the beach.
On a trip using the subway daily, that is the only meaningful split. If your days start and end between the sand and the room, there is nothing to choose between them.
Gimhae Airport is 15.5–15.9km from all four. Staying in Gwangalli means the airport is far, and reviews repeatedly recommend a taxi for the airport or Busan Station.
What actually separates the four
- With children the list narrows to two. Aqua Palace lists ages 4–12 free and has a pool and sauna; Hound Hotel Gwangan lists ages 1–5 free and has a Family Ocean View type. Hotel Homers and Kent apply no free-child policy at all. That one condition can reverse the total.
- To spend time inside the hotel, only Aqua Palace works. It is the one property here with a pool, sauna and fitness centre; the other three have a restaurant and a bar.
- The scale differs. Hotel Homers 152 rooms, Aqua Palace 112, Kent 89, Hound Hotel Gwangan 49. 49 rooms and 152 rooms are different experiences at the front desk and at the lift.
- By building age: Hound renovated 2016, Aqua Palace built 2007, Homers built 2005 and renovated 2011. Reviews of Homers return repeatedly to thin walls; reviews of Aqua Palace to rooms that are well kept but not new.
- Guest scores are Hound 8.7 (location 9.1, 1,265 reviews), Kent 8.6 (9.4, 4,253), Homers 8.5 (9.5, 4,959) and Aqua Palace 8.2 (9.4, 6,541). The review counts differ fivefold, so read the sample size alongside the number.
When Gwangalli is the wrong choice
If the water is not the point, Gwangalli costs you convenience. The subway is generally 670m or more, and the airport is 16km out.
- To pair a beach with a subway station, choose Haeundae. Shilla Stay Haeundae is 430m from Haeundae Station and 120m from the sand — closer to a station than anything in Gwangalli. Conditions are compared in Haeundae beachfront hotels.
- To move around the city daily, choose Seomyeon. Lotte Hotel Busan is 410m from Seomyeon Station and 10.1km from Gimhae Airport.
