Every guide to Rome recommends Trastevere for the evening. Almost none of them mention what happens when you try to book a hotel there.
We searched 414 Rome properties through the booking data, kept the ones inside 3km of the centre with a review sample worth reading, and Trastevere came back with two hotels.

The score goes one way and the ground goes the other. Donna Camilla Savelli scores nearly a full point higher and sits in a converted convent on Via Garibaldi — but Via Garibaldi climbs the Janiculum, so it is above the lanes where Trastevere’s restaurants are rather than among them. That is why it is quiet. It is also a walk back up at the end of the night.
Hotel Ripa Roma is on the flat near the river and has twice the rooms, which in a two-hotel neighbourhood is the difference between having a choice in August and not.

Nothing is close and nothing is far. That is the shape of Trastevere — a bridge from the old city, a bridge from the Vatican, and a long way from the station.
Termini is the number to plan around. The Leonardo Express runs only from there, so a departure day means a transfer or a direct taxi to Fiumicino. If you are day-tripping to Florence or Naples several times, this neighbourhood argues with you every morning.
Why so few hotels
The honest answer is that we do not know the planning history, and we are not going to invent one. What the data shows is unambiguous: the accommodation stock across the river is short-let apartments and small B&Bs rather than hotels. That is worth knowing before you spend an evening filtering, because the filter will not tell you the list is this short.
If two options is not enough and the evening is what you are after, the old city is a bridge away — Centro Storico has five properties inside 710m of the Pantheon, and Hotel Damaso there is the closest of them to this side of the river.
