Two hotels in the whole neighbourhood, and this is one
Every guide to Rome recommends Trastevere for the evening. Almost none of them mention what happens when you try to book a hotel there.
We searched 414 Rome properties through the booking data, kept the ones inside 3km of the centre with a review sample worth reading, and Trastevere returned two hotels. Not two good ones — two. Everything else on that side of the river is apartments, guest houses and B&Bs carrying fewer than thirty reviews each.
So this is not a shortlist. It is half of the available choice, if what you want is a front desk, a lift and a property you can compare on the same terms as the rest of this site.

The numbers are the standing Trastevere trade: the old city is a walk across the bridge, and the station is a journey. If you are day-tripping to Florence or Naples, this address argues with you every morning.
Rooms — 99 of them, in a converted convent
Doubles, triples and family rooms. In Trastevere that combination is genuinely useful — the alternative accommodation across the river is mostly apartments, which is where families end up by default.
The building is a 17th-century convent, and that changes what the rooms are: irregular shapes, thick walls, a cloister courtyard. None of it is what a modern four-star floor plan produces, and it is worth knowing before you arrive rather than after.
Two guests describe the rooms as roomy and two mention how quiet it is. The thick walls and the position up the hill are both doing work there.
Facilities — a restaurant and a business centre
Short list, and the building explains it. What guests raise instead is the quiet and the courtyard.
The one thing the reviews do not solve is the hill. Via Garibaldi climbs the Janiculum, so the hotel sits above the lanes where Trastevere’s restaurants are rather than among them. That is why it is quiet; it is also a walk back up at the end of the night. If the flat side is what you want, Hotel Ripa Roma is the neighbourhood’s other hotel.
Termini at 3.28km means the Leonardo Express is a bus or taxi first — from this side a direct taxi to Fiumicino is often simpler.

Guests seem to like the consequences. 9.0 across 472 reviews is the higher of Trastevere’s two, and within the sample cleanliness and staff each come up three times, with quiet and room size twice each. Two describe returning.
