The Leonardo Express runs non-stop from Fiumicino in 32 minutes and stops only at Termini. That one fact is the whole argument for this district. From every other area in Rome, the airport means a change or a taxi.

Seven properties here sit within 638m of the platforms. What they do not have is the old city: all seven are 3.36km or more from St Peter’s, and the Pantheon runs from 1.52km to 2.04km.

The trade runs backwards inside the district

This is the thing worth understanding before picking one. The closer a hotel is to the station, the further it is from everything you came to see.

Read the first and last rows against each other. NH Collection is 471m closer to the station and 560m further from St Peter’s. Every metre you walk away from the platforms is a metre towards the old city.

If you are here for one night before a flight, take the top of the table. If you are here for five days and using the station twice, the bottom of it costs you eight minutes on arrival and saves you a walk every day after.

The evening is what you pay with

A station district is a station district. Guests in this area raise it themselves, and they distinguish carefully: the immediate forecourt reads differently from the streets a few hundred metres out. Via Torino and Via Volturno get described as ordinary city streets; the square in front of the station does not.

That distinction matters because it maps onto the table above. The hotels with the shortest walk to the platforms are the ones on the square.

What separates them otherwise

Facilities are unusually varied here compared with Rome’s historic centre, where old buildings leave no room for them.

  • A sauna and spaiQ Hotel Roma is one of only two four-stars in this city with that combination, and it carries a self-service laundry as well
  • A rooftopTHE INDEPENDENT HOTEL serves breakfast on the eighth floor and runs the same terrace as a bar in the evening
  • Two lifts and wide roomsAugusta Lucilla Palace Hotel, which sounds trivial until you are in a Roman hotel with one small lift at check-out
  • A shared kitchen and laundryThe RomeHello sells dorms and private rooms in the same building, which is why its price sits where it does

Check the times before you book

Two properties here have timings that will catch you out.

Camplus Hotel Roma Centro checks out at 10:30 — up to 90 minutes earlier than its neighbours. Hotel Nord Nuova Roma checks in at 16:00, the latest of the seven. Most flights from Asia land in the morning, so that second one can cost you an afternoon.

Rooms for three or more

Rome is short of them, and this district is where they are. Triples and quads are listed at iQ Hotel Roma, The RomeHello, Augusta Lucilla Palace Hotel and Hotel Nord Nuova Roma. Confirm the actual bed configuration rather than the room name.

If this is not the right district

If the airport train matters less than walking out into the old city each morning, Centro Storico puts the Pantheon inside 700m. If Ancient Rome is the point, Colosseo · Monti starts at 223m from the Colosseum. The six areas are set against each other in where to stay in Rome.

City tax is charged at check-out, rises with the star rating and is not in the rate you booked (the bands are on the Italy page).
