L7 Hongdae Seoul Review: Is 240m From the Airport Line Worth It?

Location & getting around

The hotel is 240m from Hongik Univ. Station — roughly a block from the exit. What makes that number matter more than usual is which line the station serves: the airport railroad runs through it, so Incheon Airport connects without a transfer. For a short trip that removes the two most annoying journeys of the whole stay. Guests repeatedly note that the nearest exit has an escalator, which is the difference between a manageable walk and a bad one when you are pulling a suitcase.

Gimpo Airport is 10.68km away and Incheon is 43.16km. Sangsu Station is a further 850m, giving you a second subway line if you need it. Day-to-day errands are shorter still: a convenience store sits 60m from the door and an ATM 220m.

The trade-off is central Seoul. Myeongdong is 5.49km away and Deoksugung Palace 4.92km, so if your itinerary is built around the palaces and the old city you will be on the subway every morning. This location earns its keep when Hongdae itself is where you intend to spend your evenings.

Rooms & occupancy

The hotel opened in 2018, is rated four stars and has 340 rooms. Room types on record include Superior Double, Superior Double Double, Studio Suite Double and Twin, and Standard Triple. Actual stay records also show Standard Family Twin, which tells you rooms for three or more genuinely operate here rather than existing only on the rate sheet. Guests confirm three people sleeping without feeling cramped.

Children aged 1 to 12 stay free. For families that condition often moves the total more than the nightly rate does.

One layout point to check before you book. Guests mention there is no partition between the shower area and the bed. For couples and families this is a non-issue. If you are splitting a room with a friend or a colleague, it is the kind of thing that quietly ruins a trip, and it is easier to solve at booking than on arrival. Configurations differ by room type, so confirm the bathroom layout for the specific room you are reserving.

Facilities

There is an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, an executive lounge, a restaurant, a bar and a business centre. Guests mention an ice dispenser on each floor, and luggage lockers usable both before check-in and after check-out. Read that alongside the 3:00 PM check-in and 11:00 AM check-out and it is more useful than it sounds — it means your arrival morning and departure afternoon are not simply lost.

Breakfast is served buffet style. When it is not bundled into your rate, it runs 25,000 KRW for adults and 16,000 KRW for children. Compare the breakfast-included and room-only rates side by side rather than assuming one is better value.

Two things to weigh. Guests have mentioned construction noise in the surrounding area — construction moves on, so this may no longer apply, but if quiet matters it is worth asking before you commit. And the hotel’s own airport transfer, while available on request, may be charged at 310,000 KRW, which is difficult to justify against a direct train unless you are travelling in a large group with luggage.

Compared & alternatives

The obvious comparison is L7 Myeongdong under the same brand. The difference is not standard or service level — it is which neighbourhood you want to walk out into after dark. Hongdae gives you the bar, live music and late-food district at street level. Myeongdong puts you closer to the palaces and the central shopping streets and cuts your daily travel time. This is not the pick if you are travelling alone and trying to keep the accommodation budget down. Guests travelling solo describe the location and the room as good but the rate as hard to justify for one person. Giving up a few hundred metres of location within Hongdae widens the options considerably.

Bottom line

For a trip that arrives on the airport line and spends its evenings in Hongdae, this location does real work. The 240m to the station and the 60m to a convenience store shorten exactly the parts of a trip that usually waste time. An overall score of 8.9 against a location score of 9.6 says the same thing: people are rating the position higher than the hotel.

Read the reverse as a warning. If central Seoul is your focus, or if you are sharing the room with someone the bathroom layout does not suit, the location advantage does not survive contact with your actual itinerary.
